This book is an absolute stunner of a mystery novel. A genuinely propulsive read, from first page to last. I picked it up because @christinaanstead recommended it on her feed, and I was certainly not disappointed.

Aaron Falk, an Australian Federal Agent, returns to his childhood hometown for the funeral of his old best friend Luke. Luke, it turns out, has seemingly murdered his wife and son, leaving his infant daughter alive, before taking his own life.

Aaron gets caught up in the possibility that Luke didn’t, in fact, commit the heinous crimes. As a result, town and family secrets sprout from the very ground, and increasingly tangled loyalties and motivations start popping up.
