This book is absolutely perfect. I hope and pray that they make a movie of it someday.

Elizabeth Lavenza is an orphaned girl in the mid-19th century, cared for by a caretaker who abused her and finally sells her to a woman, Madame Frankenstein, who wants a companion for her son Victor.

As the years pass, Elizabeth carefully cultivates a deep friendship with Victor that she hopes will lead to her own permanent safety as his wife. In an age where women could not assure their own futures, it was necessary for girls and women to gain that security through, at times, calculating means.

As this is a retelling of Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein, the basic plot is faithful to the original. Dripping with rich descriptions and lush atmosphere, this book deserves to be read by a fireplace with a storm raging outside. Loved it.
