A faith-filled, slow burn of what I can only describe as a cozy thriller. If #cozythriller isn’t an actual genre yet, it should be.

I’m not a Mormon though I have nothing at all against the LDS church. The majority of the characters in this book, set in 1887-8, follow, more or less, the Mormon faith. The 8 families in the real (but here used fictionally) town of Junction, UT, are a tight knit community, with a known secret that a few among them help men with plural wives evade the law.

The main character, Deborah Tyler, is a childless wife whose husband is a traveling wheelwright and thus not home when trouble literally knocks on his wife’s door. It’s deep winter, and the man Deborah reluctantly helps is, she believes, on the run for having more than one wife.

I don’t think I can say much more without massive spoilers, so I’ll stop there. A wonderful read.
